Who we help

Built for the people who live there

Families come to us at different moments: planning ahead, recovering from a fall, or adapting to a new diagnosis or a wheelchair.

Older homeowners

You want to stay independent in your own home as you age, without worrying about the tub, the front steps or a dark hallway at night.

People with disabilities

Handicap-accessible and wheelchair-accessible remodeling for any age: roll-in showers, ramps, wider doorways and counters you can reach.

Children & grandchildren far away

Your parent or grandparent lives in South Florida and you don’t. Book for them, join the visit by video and get the plan by email.

Veterans

We help veterans plan home changes that may be paid for by VA HISA, SAH or SHA grants. See our Veterans page.

What we change

Room by room, the changes that matter most

Most falls and close calls happen in a few places. These are the projects we do most for aging in place and accessibility.

Bathrooms

  • Walk-in and curbless (roll-in) showers
  • Tub-to-shower conversions
  • Grab bars anchored where you need them
  • Comfort-height toilets, shower seats, hand-held showers
  • Non-slip floors and wider bathroom doors

Ramps & entries

  • Wheelchair ramps
  • Zero-step entries and lower thresholds
  • Sturdy handrails on steps
  • Better lighting at the door and path

Doors & hallways

  • Wider doorways for walkers and wheelchairs
  • Lever door handles
  • Clear, well-lit hallways
  • Turning space where a wheelchair is used

Floors, lighting & stairs

  • Slip-resistant, level flooring
  • Night lighting and easy-to-reach switches
  • Handrails on both sides of stairs
  • Stair lifts

Kitchens

  • Counters and sinks at a usable height
  • Pull-out shelves and easy-reach storage
  • Space to sit while you work
  • Room to move with a walker or wheelchair

Why stay home

Most people want to age in their own home

75%of adults 50 and older want to stay in their current homes as they age (AARP, 2024).

Staying home means keeping your neighbors, your routines and your independence.

The hard part is usually the house, not the person. A few well-planned changes, like a shower you can walk into or a ramp instead of steps, can make the difference between staying home and having to move.

How it works

Assess, plan, build

  1. 1

    Free assessment

A licensed contractor walks through the home with you, room by room, and listens to what feels hard or unsafe today. Free in Broward County; family can join by video.

  2. 2

    A written plan

You get a clear list of changes ranked by urgency: do now, plan for, and nice to have. We point you to funding programs that may help.

  3. 3

    We build it

We pull permits where required, keep the home livable during the work and keep the whole family updated, including relatives out of town.

Live out of town?

Helping a parent or grandparent from far away

If you are a son, daughter or grandchild living in another city or state, we can be your eyes and hands here.

  • Book the free assessment for your loved one and give us your phone and email
  • Join the visit by phone or video, or have a local relative there
  • Get the photos and written plan by email so the family can decide together
  • Receive updates while the work is done, so nothing happens without you knowing

Help paying for it

You may not have to pay for it all yourself

Depending on your situation, these programs may help. We go over them with you during the assessment.

  • Veterans: the VA’s HISA grant helps with changes like roll-in showers, lowered sinks and permanent ramps; SAH and SHA grants cover larger adaptations for qualifying disabilities (VA housing grants). See our Veterans page.
  • Broward County homeowners: the county’s Special Needs/Barrier Free Home Rehabilitation program funds accessibility changes for income-qualified households with a member who has a disability, as a forgivable loan (Broward County Housing).
  • Seniors 60+: minor home repair help may be available through local aging and disability services, such as the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Broward.
  • Medicaid long-term care: some Florida plans cover home accessibility changes like ramps and grab bars.

Program rules and funding change often (checked November 2026). We’ll help you find out what applies to you.

Questions

Aging in place FAQ

What is aging-in-place remodeling?

It means changing your home so you can keep living there safely and independently as you get older, instead of moving to a nursing home or assisted living. Common projects are walk-in or curbless showers, grab bars, ramps, wider doorways, better lighting and non-slip floors.

Do you do handicap-accessible and wheelchair-accessible remodeling?

Yes, for people of any age. We build wheelchair-accessible bathrooms with roll-in showers, ramps and zero-step entries, wider doorways, lever handles, lower counters, grab bars and stair lifts.

I live out of state. Can you help my parent or grandparent?

Yes. Book the free assessment for them and tell us how to reach you. You can join by phone or video, we email you the photos and written plan, and we keep the whole family updated while the work is done.

Is the assessment really free?

Yes. The in-home assessment is free with no obligation. It is currently available in Broward County. For projects in Miami-Dade or Palm Beach County, call us at 954-650-2009.

Where do you work?

Free assessments are offered throughout Broward County, including Fort Lauderdale, Davie, Pompano Beach, Lighthouse Point, Coral Springs, Plantation and Hollywood. We also take on aging-in-place and accessibility projects in Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties.

Can veterans use VA grants for these changes?

Often, yes. The VA’s HISA grant can help with changes like roll-in showers, lowered sinks and permanent ramps, and the SAH and SHA grants cover larger adaptations for qualifying disabilities. See our Veterans page for how we help with these projects.

Is the assessment a medical or therapy evaluation?

No. It is a home safety and accessibility assessment by a licensed contractor. If someone has complex medical or mobility needs, we suggest also seeing an occupational therapist, and we are happy to work from their recommendations.
